5 Things that brought me happiness this month

From surprise packages to a show which had us all on an emotional rollercoaster, here’s a few things that have kept me smiling and had me saying “it’s the little things”.

A surprise package from Olivia Burton
Olivia Burton is a brand close to my heart and I’ve been besotted with their collections for years. Previously I attended their phenomenal Dream Garden event and store opening in Covent Garden (you can read more about that
here) and my personal OB collection is ever growing.

So you can imagine how excited I was when the head of creative Jane contacted me to say she would like to send me a little package to make me smile.

The first piece was a dainty silver bracelet watch, with a fresh white face that features pastel rainbow markers. She is BEAUTIFUL. And Jane was worried that she didn’t guesstimate the sizing right so added some links but she’s a queen and got it spot on. It fits like a dream!

As if this wasn’t already enough to send me dizzy with excitement, I pulled out of a little velvet pouch containing two pairs of huggie earrings. One pair is adorned with pearls and the initial S and the other a beautiful sparkling star. Huggies are always my earring of choice and I love that you can switch up the charms.

A massive thank you and a big virtual cuddle to Jane at Olivia Burton for thinking of me, I am so very grateful.

Spending time in the garden
Around this time last year, I was eating olives and lounging on a beach in Greece. Of course this summer is a little different (I’m making do with Tesco olives, sigh) and we are making the most of our surroundings. I’m grateful to be able to sunbathe in the garden and not have to worry about matching bikinis or nip-slips.

I’ve even been taking my laptop outside into the garden (I’m working from home right now) and catching rays whilst clearing those emails! Has anybody else been doing the same?

Normal People on BBC
If you’ve seen it then you’ll know what all the fuss is about. And who knew Gaelic football was a thing?!

Like a lot of you, I became besotted with the BBC show Normal People and experienced every emotion going whilst watching it. “I love Marianne, I hate Marianne, Connell is so cute but also a bit of a dick”. And don’t even get me started on the ending. Tore out my heart and spat it out.

I was living for the playlist of indie tunes, THAT silver chain and
when he finally shows her affection in public at the swimming pool.

New skincare and makeup
Pretty much every day since lockdown started I haven’t been wearing makeup but instead adhering to a kick-ass skincare routine. Two products I have been reaching for everyday from Fresh are the Seaberry nourishing cleansing oil and the Seaberry moisturising face oil.

There are no naughty ingredients in these products, just good skincare that does what it says on the bottle.

I know I said I wasn’t wearing makeup. And now you’re saying “Soph why have you purchased more makeup?!”
Charlotte Tilbury have created some of my favourite makeup items of all time. If I’m having a down day, I can apply a CT lipstick and immediately feel like a goddess.

She has released a new airbrush bronzer and it’s a sun kiss in a compact. Rose gold packaging, a good old large pan and a hyaluronic acid infused, beautiful matte bronzer.

The desert haze eye palette contains some of my favourite shades to use on my eyes. It really emphasises the hazel tones in my eyes and blends wonderfully.

Fresh flowers
I’ll be honest and say prior to ya being stuck in the house for months on end, I never really treated myself to flowers. I’d buy them for other people but never really myself.

Since lockdown, I have been purchasing flowers for myself, just because. Why the hell not? They brighten my day and add life in to an inside space. These beautiful peonies were from Bloom & Wild. They arrive in bud as I opted for their letterbox flowers.

If you’ve made it to the end, well done! I’d like to say a little thank you to the people who have been checking in on me during this time and making sure I’m okay. I’m very grateful and it’s nice to know I still have some lovely friends who are there for me.

These are just a few things that have kept me lifted this month. What has made you happy during the month of May and what are you looking forward to in June?
