A tour of Lush Birmingham Spa, Making bath bombs & What you didn’t know about Lush

Advertisement disclosure: this post discusses gifted products from store but all views are my own

Lush are a brand who need no introduction, no frills and no fanfare. I can recall being a young girl and feeling the rush of excitement when visiting the local Lush store. The warm greeting upon arrival, the scent that defined my youth and the total excitement of trying out the products. They’re iconic, conscious of the planet and are undoubtedly one of a kind. What’s not to love?

Did you know Lush products are 100% vegetarian, 85% vegan, against animal testing and completely handmade?

Last weekend, I visited Lush Birmingham Spa to check out their fancy new installation, Fresh Flowers. It’s an experience which was previously seen in the concept store in Paris. Customers can now purchase ethical, locally-sourced and season bouquets from The Real Flower Company in store. It really is a sight to see and the flowers are visibly of the highest quality.

Flower Bomb!
My tour guide for the day was the lovely Rachel, Head of makeup in the Birmingham store. She made my visit really special and we started our morning off by creating a GIANT bath bomb. Yes, they have giant bath bombs now in store and you can choose the scent, colour and flowers inside the bomb. We had so much fun creating my unique bath bomb, Rach was there to guide me and I packed it with coarse sea salt, lavender and flowers. It’s a totally hands-on, fun activity and would be a super experience for any Lushie or creative soul.

Skincare!
In terms of skincare, Lush really has it all. From face masks to cleanser, there is an entire skincare routine just waiting to be found in store. I had a skincare consultation with Rachel about my skin type, concerns and mentioned some of the skin products I’d used from Lush over the years. It was so stimulating to speak to someone who also has such a passion for the brand.

She (very artistically!) created a smorgasbord of skincare treats for me to test out. We established I have a drier skin type that can sometimes be sensitive. Here is my skincare roundup:
  • Matcha face mask was a great all rounder for my skin and packed with antioxidant rich matcha, nutrient rich spirulina and evening primrose oil for soft, toned skin.
  • Let the good times roll cleanser has just the right amount of exfoliant but doesn’t dry my skin out or feel abrasive. Oh and it smells edible, like baked cookies.
  • Oaty Mcoat Face scrub roll slightly more scrubby and part of their fresh range, this is truly beautiful when applied with a bit of water.
  • Celestial moisturiser there’s a reason why she’s a bestseller. Almond oil, vanilla water, cocoa butter and almond milk leave skin hydrated AM or PM.

Makeup!
Next we headed to the makeup counter which is Rach’s forte. I’ve wanted to try Lush makeup for the longest time, but really wanted to be able to play with the products in store. This was the perfect opportunity to do just that. I was matched to my perfect shade in Slap Stick  which was 11N - a medium light neutral. The stick itself is inline with what I like to use day to day. It’s breathable, with buildable coverage, leaves skin enviously dewy and comes in 40 shades! I’m sold, especially with the plastic free packaging.

Teamed with Skin Tint in Feeling Younger, skin will look glowing and radiant. Essentially post- facial skin, but with makeup! That’s what we want. It really is up there with the high end highlighters, but this is a real no fuss formula and the jar can be recycled afterwards.

Last but by no means least, the new Lush Lashes mascara really goes to town on the lashes. It contains conditioning coconut oil and the brush really helps separate and lengthen.

Did you know Lush makes products into solid form to negate the need for packaging and preservatives. Almost 50% of its products are “Naked”!

Bathing!
There are so many new products available in store, I was like a kid in a candy shop. I was besotted with the Apple Crumble Bubbleroon (definite apple dessert real easy going on).

I also thought the concept of the new Worry Monster bubblebar was ultra adorable. The idea is to tell him your worries, then crumble them away under the water. The calming lavender and fennel really helps me to unwind.

I’d heard all about the brand spanking new Lime Bounty online, I believe it’s the first Lush body butter. It smells like a tropical dessert, sat by the ocean. Lime and coconut have to be the dreamiest summer scents and together in a body butter, really elevate the post-bath experience. Okay I’m going to be bold here. I’m a huge fan of Yog Nog scent from the Christmas range, but I think this could be my new favourite Lush scent. I need it in a shower gel too please, creative guys!

If you haven’t paid a visit to Lush Birmingham Spa I’d urge you to stop by. The staff are all warm and so knowledgable, you’ll have the best time in store.
I’d like to say a big thank you to Rachel for being so welcoming and professional. I had the best day!
