New In: Liz Earle Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish

A few years ago, I visited a local beauty salon in Birmingham and received a complimentary microdermabrasion skin treatment. If you’re not familiar with microdermabrasion, it’s a cosmetic procedure that uses super fine crystals and a vacuum to remove dead skin cells. The idea is to make the skin surface smoother and to reduce fine lines, whilst renewing the overall skin texture.

I left impressed with the results, but travelling to a salon and paying for the treatment is pretty pricey. But I’ve discovered a product that delivers salon results at home for a fraction of the cost.

First impressions
The Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish from Liz Earle is advanced skin resurfacing for brighter, younger looking skin.
This chemical exfoliant contains fruit enzyme Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) which work to dissolve skin-dulling particles in only five minutes and powdered pumice buffs away any aged surface cells. I found the salon microdermabrasion treatment quite drying on my skin. But this product has a creamy texture, enriched with both rosehip oil and shea butter. My skin isn’t left stripped or feeling dehydrated after use which is important when I’m reaching for any exfoliating product.

How I use the polish
I’ve been using this once a week after cleansing. I dampen my face and massage the polish all over my face and neck (not forgetting my décolletage!) using a circular motion. I then leave it on for around five minutes. Follow up with a rinse with warm water to remove the bulk of the polish and then a splash of cold water to close pores.  Follow with a toner, moisturiser and daily SPF (AHA’s can increase skins sensitivity to the sun).

Ingredients include:
  • Naturally derived fruit AHAs from orange, lemon, bilberry sugar cane and sugar maple.
  • Shea butter
  • Rosehip oil
  • Volcanic pumice crystals

Results
My skin felt invigorated and renewed after only one use. I noticed a more radiant and smooth skin texture, but also my makeup following the polish sat better on my skin. There was no irritation or soreness after use and it doesn’t feel harsh on my skin.

As well as responsibly sourced ingredients, Liz Earle are cruelty free, certified under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny Program and the tube for the polish is recyclable. Others skincare brands, please take note!
