Feeling overwhelmed? Make time for self care

Sometimes during our daily lives, the internet and social media can be a little overwhelming or we might find everyday challenges difficult to overcome. Throw a pandemic in the mix and it’s even harder!

Everyday things are changing and we must take solace in the fact that we are learning more about the current situation, working towards a solution and taking each day as it comes. At the moment I’m feeling bombarded  with constant updates and news, which can sometimes leave me feeling totally deflated.

I wanted to share some of my practical tips I’m putting in place to ensure my mind remains as positive and happy as possible, during what is a challenging time for all of us. 

Create a sanctuary
If you’re going to be working from home (which I know many of you are) it makes sense to keep your surroundings clean and organised. Placing things around you that inspire you and make you smile is key. For me that’s  fresh flowers and a candle. I also love adding photo collages in frames of Polaroid’s or printed photos from happy times. Let’s remember happier times and focus on getting back there. 

Stretch it out
It could be time to try yoga! My favourite yoga class has been cancelled for now, so I am pulling out my mat at home and trying an online workout. Stretching is perfect for releasing tension and the opportunity to take downward dog pose in the comfort of your living room isn’t one to pass up. I’ve also found a new love for running and have been using the Couch to 5k app to help me. 

Get up & dressed
It sounds very simple. But when you’re working from home or are in isolation, it’s easy to fall into a trap of being lazy and keeping those pjs on. Get up, make the bed, brew a tea or coffee (or juice!) and get changed. Even if it’s into your favourite loungewear, sticking to a routine will help you in being productive.

Digital Cleanse
Unfollow anything on social media that isn’t serving you positivity or inspiration. If it’s making you question yourself in a negative way, making you feel judgemental or leaving you drained remove it. Only absorb the content that helps you feel good Guys! 

Enjoy time for you
Whether that’s playing a game you like (I’m big into animal crossing right now - and you can download animal crossing on your mobile too!) writing, watching Netflix or reading a new book. Learn to enjoy time on your own and feel at peace with the space around you.
